Not knowing how to contact those who make changes on an ancestor I have been focused on just knocks me over.

It puts me in a real sticky mood.

 

 

It's painful realizing there is someone to collaborate with who is hiding in secret places.

You can solve this tricky problem:

 

 

Just go to the settings and make it public. Really, it's painless.

 

 

Thursday, July 17th – Official Release of Mobile apps

Many have been testing these products for the last several months. We are planning to release the following mobile apps:

·Family Tree Viewer for Android

·Family Tree Viewer for iOS

·Memories app for iOS

The Android app will be through the Google Play Store and iOS apps will be through the main Apple store.

More info on this later. The techies have been busy haven't they?

Changes to detach options on person page

We have really needed this one for awhile. If you are on a specific photo, anyone will now be able to detach the photo if it is linked to the wrong record in Family Tree.

This option does not always appear. To see the detach option, you will need to do the following:

     1.Get to a specific memory (photo, documents, stories).

2.For the list of people in this photo list on the right, click on the tag with the name of the person you want to detach.

3.When the tag opens, then you will see the detach from tree option.

4.When you click detach, you will be given the page to confirm the detach and provide a reason you are detaching.

Just like we have had a contributor can detach all the memories for a specific person using the person page under Memories, it will still exist but it will look a little different.

 If you are not the contributor, you cannot detach all memories at once. You would need to go to each memories and detach one-by-one as described earlier.

Memories disappear during Family Tree merge

We are hoping to also have a fix to keep memories when records are Family Tree records are merged.

Here are some of the key changes to the Memories section:

Changes to People Page

Changes to the header when on the People page under Memories. First, instead of the four filters, there will be only two filters on the main one – Added by: Me and Added by: Tree. Added by: Me included the photos, documents, and stories you have directly uploaded or entered to familysearch.org. Added by: Me will also include those people for whom you have selected a different default portrait from memories added by others.

Added by: Tree will be the memories uploaded by others within your first four generations, their spouses, their children, and the children’s spouses.

If you have selected Added by: Me, then there will be a second filter on the right where you can then choose the option to see only those not linked to Family Tree yet.

The circle in the left corner next is for your personal portrait. If you upload a photo of yourself, tag it and attach to the tree -- your portrait will show up there.

 

Set Who Is Your Starting Person

We have had an occassional request for this feature in the support zone.

 

In the next few days: we will be turning on a nice little feature. Users will now be able to set their Starting PID or Person. This is found on the Settings -> PREFERENCES page. Here’s what it looks like.

 

This has two results.

1. If selected, on login, the person loaded on the Tree view and Person Details page will be this starting PID.
2. If selected, the history list will now have an additional person that is this starting PID. (See below)

Print Your Pedigree View, Way Too Cool

Early next week we will be turning on another great feature. Users will be able to print their portrait pedigree as a PDF. This pedigree is stylized to showcase photos. It targets 8 1/2 x 11 paper. It prints the person of focus, preferred spouse, their children with their spouses, parents, grandparents, and great grandparents (5 generations). Within the PDF, names are links to the person details page. Below is an example with President Hinckley as a child of Bryant Stringham Hinckley

Upadate To The My Family Booklet Coming Soon

I have thought it was a good idea to produce the My Family Booklet. I thought that there was a definite place for it. Now the data can be entered online which increases the application.

 

Tuesday, July 1^st (possibly delayed) – Upgrade to website to enter data from “My Family” booklet

Updates to the website pages for patrons (and others like consultants) to enter information they had previously written into the “My Family” booklet.  The access to this portion of the website will be like it is today where they will go to familysearch.org and click Family Booklet.

 

Then they will have the options to get into the specific pages to enter the data from the booklet. The “Fill in an online version” is for a patron who is doing it themselves.  The “Help others preserve their information” is for a consultant or another patron who will be helping someone else put the information from the booklet into the system.

 

Ultimately, you will get to the first entry screen which will be similar to the following with some information already filled in that it found in Family Tree:

Sir John Lisle

Two questions surrounding John Lisle that will help clear up confusion that is currently in Family Tree:

1- What dates did John marry Elizabeth Mary Hobart and Alice Beaconshawe? Were they really 1621 and 1636 as in family tree?

2- Did he divorce Ms. Hobart? If so when?

3- Who were the children under each marriage?

4- Who did his daughter Alice Lisle marry? Was it a Whitaker? Which Whitaker?

If these questions interest you, please let me know so we can collaborate our research.

Below is what is currently in family tree. There is conflicting information. I am suggesting no changes be made until proper sourcing can be added so proper conclusions can be made. The obvious and important conflict is in Alice Lisle. She is show under both wives as a daughter. She is twice under Ms. Hobart.
