ReplyDeleteMy great great grandparents lived on a farm in Norway. They had a very regular Norwegian patronimic name--Olsen and Olsdatter for the children. They were kicked off their farm for reasons too long to go into here. Before they moved off the farm and into Oslo they took the name of the farm as their new surname--Petterborg.
ReplyDeleteI have a blog From Olsen to Petterborg (http://petterborggenealogy.blogspot.com/). Just this past week I heard from a young man, in Norway, whose great grandfather bought the farm in 1910 and his family still lives there!!!! I am pretty sure he found the blog by Googling the name because there would be no other way to find it.
I have also found several relatives in the states, who have contacted me because of Google!
